Gin Huang Gallery is delighted to present Lumen Terr\u00e6, the first solo exhibition in Taipei by acclaimed French artist July Ancel. Featuring key works from 2016 to 2025, the exhibition traces the artist\u2019s evolving creative journey\u2014from the introspective Face series that delves into memory and emotional intimacy, to the more expansive and symbolic GAUDE HINI and Querencia series which embody ritual forms, spiritual iconography, and energetic resonance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The title Lumen Terr\u00e6, Latin for \u201clight of the earth,\u201d reflects Ancel\u2019s exploration of ancient wisdom, feminine vitality, and the ritualistic aspects of human existence. Her work is rooted in an alchemical process that blends mineral pigment, oil, thread, fabric, and sacred objects into layered compositions. These are not merely paintings\u2014they are sites of invocation, where matter and meaning converge to create contemplative, emotionally charged spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ancel\u2019s visual language resists literal interpretation. Her use of materials speaks to the body and spirit, drawing on subconscious associations and physical intuition.
